World Dairy Expo 2009

By Russell Gammon
Jersey families in both Pennsylvania and Illinois found great reason to celebrate this past Saturday!
A five year old Jersey cow named Xanadu Champion Kandy Kiss, Ex-94% was named Supreme Champion of all breeds over 600 animals exhibited by dairy youth at the World Dairy Expo. Her excited exhibitor was young Ben Sauder of River Valley Farms in Tremont, Illinois. Just as excited by this wonderful victory were the Tom and Amy Colpetzer and family of Xanadu Jerseys of Greenville, Pennsylvania who bred the cow and the strong female line behind her.
Like so many other winning Jersey animals at the 2009 World Dairy Expo Kandy Kiss has a lot of Canadian Jersey genetics in her extended pedigree. This productive and highly scored cow is sired by Sleegerholm Champion, a bull bred by Mike Sleegers of Belmont, Ontario and Jeff Smith of Woodstock, Ontario. Champion hales from a respected female line in the Enniskillen Jersey herd of the Sargent and Stenger families at Enniskillen, Ontario.  Her Excellent polled dam is from an Ex-95% polled dam. Piedmont Nadine Extreme-ET, the dam's sire, was bred by Piedmont Jersey Inc of Coaticook, Quebec and marketed by ABS Global.
Kandy Kiss was named Champion of the large Junior Jersey Show at Madison on her way to the Supreme Championship of the Junior shows at Madison.
